Archbishop Georg Gänswein, currently Nuncio to the Baltic States, praised Pope Leo XIV and U.S. President Donald Trump while attacking Russian President Vladimir Putin in an interview with DomRadio.de on July 22. Monsignor Gänswein said Pope Leo XIV has brought "a new sense of relief" to the Church. "Peace is the key word," he believes. "From his very first address, Pope Leo placed the peace of the Risen Christ at the center of his message." According to the nuncio, the Pope's emphasis on peace has [allegedly] transformed the atmosphere. "It has turned headwinds into tailwinds. Whether that wind will change again remains impossible to predict." Bond with Pope Benedict XVI Reflecting on his years alongside Benedict XVI, Archbishop Gänswein said their relationship developed from a professional one into a close personal friendship. "We not only worked together but also lived under one roof and spent every day together," he recalled. "During the ten years after his resignation, our relationship …More

Young Catholics in Brazil are expressing a desire for deeper faith formation, greater emphasis on holiness, and well-celebrated liturgy, while also voicing frustration with what they see as an excessive focus on sociopolitical issues in the Church, according to a national survey presented to the Brazilian Bishops' Conference (CNBB). The 2025 survey, conducted by the CNBB's Episcopal Commission for Youth with academic partners, gathered responses from more than 11,000 Catholics aged 12 to 29 across Brazil. It used a voluntary online questionnaire rather than a representative random sample. According to the partial results (document below), holiness and the Christian faith were the most frequently cited topics of interest among respondents. Many also expressed a desire for stronger formation in Catholic teaching, greater emphasis on Scripture and the Eucharist, and well-celebrated liturgy. Asked what makes participation in the Church more difficult, respondents most often pointed to a lack …More
Cardinal Cupich: “Viewing synodality through the lens of dance rescues this unfamiliar word and concept from the realm of dry bureaucracy, committees and paperwork. It reframes the communal journey as something dynamic, joyful and deeply incarnational.”
VaticanNews.va – the Vatican's costly news portal with a modest online audience – published the Article “Assisted Reproduction: When AI Is Used Against Humans” on July 21 about the ethical implications of artificial intelligence in in vitro fertilisation (IVF). The article treats the intrinsically evil IVF as an established form of "medically assisted reproduction" and focuses on the risks posed by automation. The author of the article is Davide Dionisi, who worked for more than 25 years at Radio Vaticana–Vatican News and is now Italy's Special Envoy for the Promotion of Freedom of Religion and the Protection of Religious Minorities. He relies throughout on comments from Laura Palazzani, a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life. Palazzani argues that technology should "support the clinical process" rather than replace the physician. She insists that doctors remain indispensable during procedures including "the retrieval and processing of gametes, in vitro fertilisation, and the culture …More

Anecdotes about Pope Leo XIV's student years at the International College of St. Monica in Rome, belonging to the Augustinian Fathers, are published in the new Vatican News documentary Leone a Roma. An Augustinian friar recalls that fellow students played "so many jokes" on him—"so many." One night he woke convinced an airplane was circling outside his window. The brothers had hidden a ringing radio on top of his wardrobe, leaving him searching for the mysterious noise in the middle of the night. On another occasion, someone offered this friar what he thought was a candy. "They said to me, 'Here, I would like to offer you a candy.' So I thought it was a candy, but instead it was a laxative tablet. As a result, while I was in the chapel I had to run to the bathroom." The documentary accompanies the story with the photo of a smiling young Robert Prevost, without suggesting who was responsible. Another friar recalls that the future pope would squeeze into his room every single evening to …More
Purify Your Heart To Find God The gospel reading about Mary Magdalene’s encounter with the resurrected Lord emphasizes the importance of loving God with our whole heart. Mary Magdalene’s unwavering love for Jesus, despite her past, serves as an example for us to seek and love God selflessly. The spiritual life involves purifying our hearts of selfishness and seeking God’s love, even when we feel abandoned or distant from Him. Fr. James Martin SJ Wants the Church to Ordain [More] Homosexual Priests: Homosexual activist Fr James Martin SJ has called on Pope Leo XIV to remove the – largely unenforced – restrictions against "celibate homosexuals" to become priests. Fr Martin believes that "sexual orientation" alone should not stop a man from being ordained. He points to Pope Francis, who said there are already many "holy, healthy and celibate" homosexual priests. However, in 2005 Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger concluded that men with deep-seated homosexual temptations should not enter the seminary because they lack the emotional maturity needed for lifelong celibacy.
“Dear migrants, before I say any other word to you, I want to bow before your dignity. “You are not numbers or case files. “You are people — with a family and a home left behind, with dreams that no one has the right to scorn.” — Pope Leo XIV
In an attempted public relations stunt, Ukrainian soldiers were captured in an attempt to raise the flag over some abandoned buildings in the strategic city of Konstantinovka. The Ukrainian soldiers were captured by the Russian military and forced to drop their flags and raise the flag of the Russian Federation. The failed PR stunt comes at a time when Ukraine is trying to save face after a recent shakeup in its military leadership. Ukraine's Attempted PR Stunt Ends in Embarrassment --- I watch this sort of thing nearly every day. But this was too funny to pass up without posting it.
1) The Holy Scriptures teach about Purgatory as a Place of purification to attain the necessary holiness to see God. a) 2 Maccabees 12:39–46; The next day, they went in search of Judas to gather the bodies of those who had fallen and lay them to rest with their relatives in their fathers’ tombs. Then they found, under the tunics of each of the dead, objects consecrated to the idols of Jamnia, which the Law forbids to the Jews. It was then clear to all why those men had perished. They all blessed the works of the Lord, the just Judge who reveals hidden things, and they turned to supplication, praying that the sin committed might be completely erased. The valiant Judas urged the crowd to keep themselves free from sin, in light of what had happened because of the sin of those who had perished. After collecting nearly 2,000 drachmas from his men, he sent them to Jerusalem to offer a sin offering, acting in a most beautiful and noble way, with the resurrection in mind. For if he had not …More
