German Priest Steps Down to Marry His Longtime Secret Partner: German priest Andreas Unfried, 63, is stepping down after revealing he has been secretly in a relationship with a woman for many years. He has served as a priest for 37 years near Frankfurt. In an open letter, he announced plans to marry his longtime partner. The Diocese of Limburg, led by Bishop Georg Bätzing, said it respects his decision and thanked the priest for decades of "service". Unfried, in turn, thanked Bishop Bätzing for treating him with "respect".

Kurz vor dem Ruhestand hängt er in einer emotionalen, öffentlichen Beichte das Messgewand an den Nagel, gibt die Pfarrei auf und will seine Freundin heiraten.

Father J. Vida Elmer THE SMOKE OF THE ANTICHRIST

THE happenings of our days are supplying strong arguments that the prophecies of the Holy Scriptures are coming to their realization. Better information means better preparedness.
THE SMOKE OF THE ANTICHRIST is not available in book stores. The distribution of this book is carried out by the goodwill and ingenuity of its readers who wish to be the "fragrance of Christ for God" (II Cor. 2, 15), by sharing the light of Christ with their fellow men, in this age of general confusion brought into the world by "the world rulers of this darkness" (Eph. 6, 12).

In Italy, a Beach Club Run by Nuns Is in Jeopardy
nytimes.com/2026/08/19/world/europe/italy-nuns-be…
The Sisters of Charity of Saint Mary have hosted beachgoers in the town of Spotorno for decades. But change is coming.

It’s been billed as the Sisters of Charity versus the mayor.
For 80 years or more, the Sisters of Charity of Saint Mary have occupied a small slice of terrestrial paradise, running one of thousands of beach clubs along Italy’s coast.
But this longtime arrangement in Spotorno, an Italian town on the Ligurian Sea, may soon come to an end. The nuns’ beach, like all the Italian coastline, is publicly owned, and local officials say their lease will soon be put up for auction, along with those of other beachfront clubs.
Some Spotorno residents are unhappy about it, saying that the nuns had supported the community for many years. Italian news outlets have picked up the story, several of them using variations on “Holy War” in their headlines.
But Mayor Mattia Fiorini says he is simply trying to enforce regional and European Union laws that have been ignored for two decades.
“Every Italian story seems a soap opera,” he said, adding, “We …More

Leo XIV at Angelus, says that when it comes to pastoral choices, it doesn’t suffice to simply carry on as we always have: “Dear friends, let us learn not to close ourselves off within our own religious convictions and certainties, but rather to remain open to an authentic relationship with Christ. Sometimes, regarding the Christian faith, we settle for hearsay, clichés, or what has been handed down to us—perhaps even with good intentions. Yet Jesus calls us to a personal response, to know Him intimately, and to let our lives be shaped by friendship with Him—in an ever-new encounter that may require us to walk uncharted paths and make choices different from those we had imagined. This applies both to our personal journey and to the path of the Church and its pastoral choices, where we sometimes think it suffices to simply carry on as we always have. Instead, it is important to ask ourselves frequently: Who is the Lord to me? Do I truly know Him? What does His Gospel ask of me today? What …More

Two short video quotes from today's Angelus: Leo XIV offers unusual definitions of faith, suggesting that focusing on what has been handed down to us is insufficient.

Trump’s Economic Approach Draws Concern From Some Republicans
nytimes.com/…s/politics/trump-republicans-economy…
A plan to lower tariffs on imported beef and trade tensions with Canada have compounded some G.O.P. worries about a central issue in the midterms.
By Bayliss Wagner
Aug. 23, 2026
President Trump’s economic policies drew a fresh round of concern from some Republicans this weekend who criticized his trade policies, as others in the party sidestepped questions about his broader approach amid a midterm election that has put consumer prices front and center.
Representative Ashley Hinson of Iowa, a Republican running in one of the most competitive Senate races, reiterated her opposition to Mr. Trump’s recent announcement that he would lower tariffs for up to 300,000 metric tons of imported ground beef over the next 90 days, which he claimed would push down costs.
“We need to focus on affordability, but I think this isn’t the way to do that,” Ms. Hinson told Fox News in an interview …More

Claimed Eucharistic Miracle Under Investigation in Guatemala

Church authorities are examining a possible Eucharistic miracle after a Host placed in water reportedly failed to dissolve and subsequently developed reddish stains that “could be blood”, the Cathedral Parish of El Niño Dios in Cuilapa, Guatemala, has announced on August 22. The parish is the cathedral of the Diocese of Santa Rosa de Lima.
The incident began on July 30, during a Missionary Eucharistic Week. A priest was celebrating the Eucharist at a private school when he noticed that a teenage student, after receiving Holy Communion, was removing the Host from his mouth.
The priest intervened before the student could throw it to the ground.
Following the procedure used in such cases, the priest placed the Host in a glass of water in the chapel of the parish house so that it could dissolve.
When the chapel was cleaned the following Thursday, however, a parish worker found that the Host had not dissolved and noticed reddish stains which appeared as though they might be blood. A priest …More

The things to come ~ Second Letter of Saint Francis of Paola ~ After 'Great Catholic Monarch' blog.

Second Letter.
The original letter is allegedly preserved in the city of Montalto in Calabria:
My excellent Lord, — You and your consort desire to have children; you shall have them. Your holy offspring shall be admired upon earth. Among your descendants there will be one who shall be like the sun amidst the stars. He shall be a first-born son; in his childhood he will be like a saint; in his youth, a great sinner; then he will be converted entirely to God and will do great penance; his sins will be forgiven him, and he shall become a great saint.
He shall be a great captain and prince of holy men, who shall be called the holy Crociferi (I.e the Cruciferi, cross-bearers) of Jesus Christ, with whom he shall destroy the Mahometan sect and the rest of the infidels. He shall annihilate all the heresies and tyrannies of the world. He shall reform the Church of God by means of his followers, who shall be the best men upon earth in holiness, in arms, in science, and in every virtue, because …More

JAPAN IS BANNING AMERICAN CEREALS BECAUSE THEY CAUSE CANCER — AND KIDS IN THE U.S. ARE STILL EATING THEM
Japan is considering banning popular American cereals like Frosted Flakes, Rice Krispies, Honey Bunches of Oats, and snacks like Wheat Thins. Why? Because they contain BHT (Butylated Hydroxytoluene), a chemical used as a preservative and flavor enhancer that Japan considers too dangerous. While other countries are rejecting these products over cancer concerns, they’re still widely sold in American stores. If Japan doesn’t want it in their country… why are we still feeding it to our kids?
