He believes that "I do not have this charism, nor do you, nor does Cardinal Burke. Today only Francis has it.” It is inappropriate for a Prefect of the CDF to quote another Cardinal in such a context.
Burke recently wrote the preface to a book critical of the upcoming synod.
To say that bishops have "a special gift of the Holy Spirit" to judge "the doctrine of the Holy Father" will lead to a vicious circle where "anyone" can claim to have the true doctrine, leading to heresy and schism, Fernández believes.
Apparently, he doesn't know that there is no such thing as the "doctrine of the Holy Father" because a pope does not lord over the Faith (2 Cor 1:24).
At least, Fernández admits that the German Church "has serious problems." He will retract as soon as the German bishops will complain about this statement.
For Fernández "the risk of the Synodal Way lies in believing that by enabling some progressive novelties, the Church in Germany will flourish." This statement also condemns Francis.
Fernández has already given forty interviews since his appointment in July.
