What a great Pope he would be in the coming conclave. Not impossible. Strange things have happened in the past....great Popes elected who held no chance going into the conclave....Pius X being one of them.
I read a piece on this site yesterday that had been have a re-evaluation of what I thought of John XXIII. I read so many articles of what a "good Pope" he was, "Good Pope John", etc. I also have read that there is evidence he was a Mason, and actually a very bad man.
The results of his Vatican II seem to lean in the direction that he was bad. That's what I always thought. But I came away with a somewhat different opinion yesterday.
The post I read (which I unfortunatly didn't it put it to my favorites), said that John XXIII had Vatican II all set up from the beginning. It was to last about 3 months, discuss topics that had already been approved by him (schemata, or "subjects" drawn up by conservative Cardinals of the Curia and approved by John. The subjects would be limitied, and not deal with the entire life of the Church. But when the Council opened, the filth liberal CArdinals and periti(theological advisors) from radical liberal countries (Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, France....and unfortunatly, afew from the USA) hijacked the Council, trashed the Papally approved Schema of topics, and opened up the Council to discuss everything. John XXIII was already sick when he opened the Council in October 1962 with stomach cancer, but he was under treatment, and it was not expected to advance quickly. When he saw that his Council was being hijacked by the liberals, he quickly appointed an army of conservative Cardinals and bishops to try to turn it around....but it was too late. He had lost control of it.
When the session of the Council closed, John XXIII was still functioning, and fully expected to be around the following Autumn to open the second session, where he hoped to take control of the Council.....but unfortunatly, his condition took a turn for the worse in the Spring, and he died June 3, 1963, but not until uttering surprising orders that are RARELY ever mentioned. Afew days before he died, he said according to Jean Guttion, one of the few lay theologians at the Council..."STOP THE COUNCIL, STOP THE COUNCIL!!
Personally, I would tend to believe this, rather than the sugar-sweet supposed last moments when John XXIII was praying for the success of his council, saying "Ut unum sint", etc. (Thay we may be one) Meaning Catholics, Protesants, etc.
Schneider is a wonderful man. The cardinals could not do any better than chose someone like him......or Burke, Sarah, Muller, Eijk or Erdo.
