A Leo XIV's Bishop: In Favour of Priestesses, Married Priests, Homosexual "Blessings" - Against Roman Rite

On Saturday, Monsignor Beat Grögli will be consecrated as the Bishop of St Gallen in Switzerland. In an interview with Kath.ch on 1 July, he expressed his views on the "ordination" of women, celibacy, and the "blessing" of homosexuals. His key points:

- "I find the theological arguments against women's priesthood weak. Socially, too, many no longer understand why women are still being denied access."

- "The idea of women exercising the priesthood - if Rome allows it - doesn't scare me."

- "In my view, the mandatory link between priesthood and celibacy can be changed."

- "Every Sunday, homosexual people [allegedly] attend services in the cathedral. I appreciate them and I believe they appreciate me. However, this has never resulted in a request for a blessing ceremony."

When homosexual concubines want to be blessed by the bishop?
- "I am a pastor. A blessing ceremony is not a manifestation of church politics."

Your position on the Priestly Fraternities of St. Peter and of St. Pius X?
- "The Old Mass is often associated with theological ideas, worldviews, and political opinions that I do not share. The difficult thing about these groups is that they have left the wider [non-existing] community. The liturgy they celebrate does not evolve. By doing so, they disconnect themselves from the development of the Church as a community."

If the people of St Gallen were Catholic they would be demanding a new bishop while having a locksmith change the locks on the Chancery doors.

People often forget (or the Vatican covered up) that John Paul II infallibly defined the priesthood as excluding women. He said to the effect in Ordinatio Sacerdotalis “It has always been believed by the Universal Church that the sacred orders exclude women, and this is to be definitively held by all the faithful.” That was the same formula used for the Marian dogmas. This is to say, anyone that entertains the idea of women being priests is not Catholic.
