Palm Sunday: Francis "Smiles" at Cardinal Burke
During the Palm Sunday Eucharist at the Vatican, Francis, 87, sat around in a Pluviale. The liturgy was presided over by Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Oriental Churches.
It was the first time Francis had skipped a Palm Sunday homily, but he did read some prayers, gave his blessing and prayed the Angelus after the liturgy. He has in previous years skipped Easter Sunday sermons. In recent weeks, Francis has often relied on an assistant to read his speeches.
After the Palm Sunday liturgy, Francis was wheeled around in his wheelchair. He greeted some of the cardinals seated in the front row. When he came to Cardinal Burke, Burke shook his hand and Francis "smiled" at him (video below).
Francis is an enemy of Burke and in December ordered him to vacate his Vatican apartment by February.
