Will Famous Hotel Columbus Go To Bill Gates?

The Knights of the Holy Sepulchre is considering which company to choose to run the Hotel Columbus, a renaissance-era building just outside St. Peter’s Square, writes Edward Pentin (NcREgister.com, May 20).

Italian media reported that it is already decided to give the contract to the hotel chain “Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts,” majority-owned by the US oligarch Bill Gates. The chain would spend 50-million euros, spread over a 27-year lease.

Grand master of the Order is Cardinal Fernando Filoni. Gates is no partner for a Catholic institution given his murderous views on abortion and contraception.

Pentin points out that the project embarrasses Francis, who wants “a poor Church for the poor.” It also clashes with the increasing numbers of homeless who spend the night outside the hotel and in St. Peter’s Square.

Well, having stayed there nearly a decade ago, I can say it was about the worst accommodations I’ve ever had. I may be a traditionalist, but I don’t enjoy “traditional” European hotel bathrooms, with a shower wand and a drain next to the toilet. Also, as of that time, you were still expected to turn your key in at the desk whenever leaving the hotel. Bad security. Anything would be an improvement.
