Sarah: No Continuity - No Church

The Church has no other sacred reality to offer than her faith in Christ, and her “sole goal” is to make possible men's encounter with God, Cardinal Robert Sarah wrote on LeFigaro.fr (August 13).

According to him, the means of this sacred encounter are the Church's moral and dogmatic teachings as well as her mystical and liturgical patrimony. Christian civilisation, beauty and culture - "good and just realities" - are only consequences of this encounter.

The Church possesses the unbroken chain of faith linking her with Christ, Sarah explains, “The sacred cannot be decreed, it is received from God and passed on.”

Sarah recalls this because, as he writes, “some theologians” [read: Francis] are seeking to reopen liturgical wars by pitting the Mass against the Novus Ordo Eucharist which puts the credibility of the whole Church at stake by saying that the Mass and the Eucharist are irreconcilable, but thus “one would implicitly recognise a rupture”. The bishops then no longer appear as shepherds and guardians of the faith, but as political leaders and commissioners of the "ideology of the moment."

His conclusion, “If the Church were to claim a reversal of her faith or of her liturgy, in what name would the Church dare address the world? Her only legitimacy is her consistency in her continuity.”

Thank God for Cardinal Sarah, a true and honest apostle
John A Cassani
The committee didn’t just include old Italian guys, but also such examples of “virtue” as Rembert Weakland. It has nothing to recommend it. Cardinal Sarah needs our prayers, that he continue to do God’s work.
