Italian Priest Suspended for Rejecting the Novus Ordo
On 4 September, Bishop Mariano Crociata of Latina, Terracina, Sezze and Priverno announced that the priest had been suspended a divinis. The bishop is a former secretary of the Italian bishops' conference.
Don Pompei is now forbidden from performing any priestly duties, wearing clerical attire or publicly presenting himself as a priest.
This followed his decision to defy a diocesan order. He was instructed "not to convene any parish meetings and to suspend any activity on social media".
During the livestream, he had informed his parishioners that he had come to the conclusion that the Second Vatican Council was incompatible with Catholic tradition, and that the Church needed to revert to the ancient Roman Rite.
He had pointed out the obvious: that the reforms of the 1960s have distorted the faith.
Bishop Crociata swiftly appointed another priest to the parish in Sermoneta to restore calm within the community.
In recent years, several Italian priests have been suspended or even excommunicated ("no one is excluded"), most of them for rejecting the papacy of Francis.
