Italian Priest Suspended for Rejecting the Novus Ordo

Don Leonardo Maria Pompei, the parish priest of Sermoneta in the province of Rome, has been suspended. The cause: He had hosted an online meeting in which he declared that the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council were contrary to the Catholic Faith.

On 4 September, Bishop Mariano Crociata of Latina, Terracina, Sezze and Priverno announced that the priest had been suspended a divinis. The bishop is a former secretary of the Italian bishops' conference.

Don Pompei is now forbidden from performing any priestly duties, wearing clerical attire or publicly presenting himself as a priest.

This followed his decision to defy a diocesan order. He was instructed "not to convene any parish meetings and to suspend any activity on social media".

During the livestream, he had informed his parishioners that he had come to the conclusion that the Second Vatican Council was incompatible with Catholic tradition, and that the Church needed to revert to the ancient Roman Rite.

He had pointed out the obvious: that the reforms of the 1960s have distorted the faith.

Bishop Crociata swiftly appointed another priest to the parish in Sermoneta to restore calm within the community.

In recent years, several Italian priests have been suspended or even excommunicated ("no one is excluded"), most of them for rejecting the papacy of Francis.

Any chance we can swap canonizations, this guy for the token, symbolic millennial lad?

He’s not dead yet.

I got booted out Carmelite convent in France for rejecting the Novus Ordo.

This great priest speaks the truth about Vatican II and those in charge of the Church set out to destroy him. What else is new. May God richly bless this priest.

But, but, ... How about Marko Rupnik, Rome?!

Deze priesters moeten gewoon een kerk kopen en voor zichzelf een parochie starten.

The Church doesn't work like this.... founding sects.

He’s swiftly suspended and kicked out as Priest, but a convicted boy-rapist is appointed Chancellor of a Diocese? And was apologized to by his Bishop when, due to public outrage, he was finally and reluctantly removed? God help us.

How swiftly they can act to discipline a presbyter if they deem it important enough...

"He declared..." All priests have the gift of infallibility?

Where's Burke?

This is unjust, illegal, invalid and illicit, as no priest can be forced to celebrate the Novus Bogus. I shall pray for this courageous priest.

Such courage and integrity! Thank you God, and bless this priest.
