For Catholics, the whole of the Church has received from the Apostles, the heritage to be adhered to of the "Sacred deposit" of the faith (the depositum fidei), contained in Sacred Scripture and [Holy] Tradition. [CCC 84]
There are two senses of Scripture, the literal and the spiritual [= allegorical, moral and anagogical senses]. [CCC 115].
The literal sense is the meaning conveyed by the words of Scripture and discovered by exegesis, following the rules of sound interpretation: "All other senses of Sacred Scripture are based on the literal." [CCC 116]
