Damage Control: Italian Bishops Claim Reports on Admission of Homosexual Seminarians Are "Out of Context"

The Italian bishops' newspaper Avvenire and Bishop Stefano Manetti of Fiesole, president of the Italian bishops' Commission for the Clergy, have tried to deny media reports that the Italian bishops are accepting homosexual seminarians.

The news broke on Thursday. On Friday, Avvenire.it claimed that the "norms on the non-admission of homosexuals to the priesthood will not change". This clarification "became necessary after a partial and out-of-context reading by some press organs".

Paragraph 44 of the new norms excludes "practising" homosexuals. However, it goes on to say that "when reference is made to homosexual tendencies, it is appropriate not to reduce discernment to this aspect alone".

In addition to this wording, which obviously does allow for homosexual seminarians, the paragraph also quotes Benedict XVI's 2005 instruction, which excludes three categories: "those who practise homosexuality, show deep-seated homosexual tendencies or support the so-called 'gay culture'."

Exactly. I made the same point in another posting about this issue. They have been ordaining homosexuals as priest, bishops and cardinals for years. That is one reason why we are in the sad state we find ourselves.

Dit is de grootste fout van de Tweede Vaticaanse Concilie kerk, praktiserende homoseksuele priesters accepteren. Dit is de oorzaak van het leeglopen de de reguliere Tweede Vaticaanse Concilie kerk. Bij de Sint Petrus en de Pius X broederschappen wordt dit niet geaccepteerd en groeien daardoor sterk in leden aantal en nog sterker in het aantal priesterroepingen. Iedere vijf jaar verdubbelt bij deze twee broederschappen het aantal priesters en het aantal semenaristen.
