Traditionis Custodes: Vatican Survey Contradicts Francis' Official Rationale
American Diane Montagna published today the original 2020 survey of bishops worldwide regarding the Mass in the Roman Rite on her Substack.com account.
Background
In 2021, Pope Francis issued 'Traditionis Custodes', restricting the celebration of the Roman rite.
He justified this by citing a 2020 global consultation of bishops that allegedly revealed widespread division and dissatisfaction caused by the Roman rite.
Francis wrote that he was "constrained" by the bishops’ "requests" to revoke 'Summorum Pontificum'.
Francis’ Invented Excuse
The report, which has now been published, contradicts the rationale behind 'Traditionis Custodes'.
The report's "Overall Assessment" by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith concludes: "The majority of bishops who responded stated that making legislative changes to Summorum Pontificum would cause more harm than good."

I was Master of Ceremonies for the Old Mass in my diocese. I filled out the survey. Our Mass was expanded to two on Sunday and regularly Masses were celebrated during the week, all richly attended by hundreds of young people annd families every time.
We were the largest, most generous congregation, and often more welcoming than our Novus Ordo compatriots. We also did everything ourselves, never demanding diocesan funds for our works.
Of course now it is banned and replaced by a Latin Novus Ordo for which I did a good amount of training for them. I do not attend.
First question needs to be. Understanding that God never changes, what does God want?
God does not want you to engage in internal struggles of neo-modernism.
I do not understand people getting excited at revelation that, according to opinions of some NO bishops... "the situation has become completely pacified" due to SP.
As it has been obvious from the start the indult system was created to pacify the faithful and enable them to accept the postconciliar revolution. We do not need some leaked report to tell that.
Is this actually news? Francis was lying? The Vatican is complicit?
One large advantage that Cradle Catholics have over converts is that we're used to our bishops and leaders hating us and lying to us.

Francis totally lied about that survey like he did so much else. It was all a scam, he never had any intention to follow what the bishops wanted, he singularly wanted to shut down the Latin Mass because it is Catholic. It can be hoped that Pope Leo will revisit that survey and follow the actual results, or as the pope, just do the Catholic thing and restore the largely unlimited use of the Mass of the ages, no need for the survey.
Leo has already had plenty of time to declare the Traditional Latin Mass may be observed universally, and that all restrictions on it are invalid. Thank you very much, Diane Montagne for your excellent journalistic skills and for keeping us focused on what is important!
