Retired Chur Bishop Vitus Huonder, 77, Switzerland, celebrated the 9:40 Assumption Mass (August 15) in the church of the priory Saint Charles Borromeo of the Fraternity of Saint Pius X in Oberriet, Switzerland.
The Fraternity is in bad terms with the local Bishop Markus Büchel of Saint Gallen. Huonder’s presence had not been announced in the Mass bulletin of the priory. He celebrated a sung Mass, alone without deacon or subdeacon.
During his time in office, Huonder was the usual “conservative” bishop who drops Catholics in difficulties and protects and promotes the liberals. In 2013 his spokesman justified mothers who bring their children to abortion. Huonder also stood by the German Bishops when they introduced the morning-after abortion pill in the Catholic hospitals in Germany.

@Ultraviolet: The fact that Giger has a cross on his tomb may not mean a lot. This may just be a part of the local custom. He is buried in Gruyère which is/was a very Catholic area.

Don Reto Nay, you're completely correct. At least he didn't opt for an atheistic cremation or the foul pagan debauch many of his paintings would suggest. Author Daniel Gower critiqued that sort of dark aesthetic saying, "You’ve got a lot more feeling in you than you think. @Ultraviolet: According to his name and birthplace I would also suggest that Giger was not a Catholic.

Curious Coincidence:: Chur, Switzerland is the birthplace of H.R. Giger who, ironically, had a Christian burial. www.findagrave.com/memorial/129725467/h_-r_-giger
