celebrations according to the 1962 rubrics, etc. in Stockholm's Catholic diocese
Pope Francis issued in the apostolic letter motu proprio Traditionis custodes of it
July 16, 2021 new guidelines for the use of the 1962 mass. The guidelines are
intended to promote the unity and cohesion of the Church. To celebrate the mass according to it in the older order, priests must have the consent of the diocesan bishop. Likewise, the bishop decides on which
places and at what times the mass can be used. Mass in this order can not constitute
parish worship service; it can not be celebrated in parish churches and is not advertised by parishes.
To the bishop's delegate for the celebration of the 1962 Mass, Father Oliver Schnitzler, Ängelholm. He has the task of (a) overseeing the celebration and keeping in touch with those concerned
priests and groups, (b) decide on temporary services in the older order and
permission for visiting priests to celebrate according to it, (c) stimulate the priests concerned
specialization in liturgy and the Latin language and (d) coordinate public information
about mass in the 1962 rite via the internet. He must also be prepared to answer questions
current celebrations in the 1962 order.
Permission to celebrate according to the 1962 order is hereby granted to the following priests:
father Joakim Breding
Vicar Father Martin Ferenc
Vicar father Ingvar Fogelqvist
Canon Marcus Künkel
Father Otto Michael Schneider
father Oliver Schnitzler
Vicar Father Tobias Unnerstål
The 1962 mass may, until otherwise decided, be used in the following places and with the following
frequency:
Stockholm:
Sätra (Church of St. Maroun): daily
Örebro Dean:
Strängnäs Cathedral (Lutheran): once a month
Jönköping Dean:
Hälleberga church (Lutheran): twice a month
Gothenburg Dean:
Gothenburg (location and frequency not yet determined)
Alboga (St. Pauli Chapel): twice a month
Malmö Dean:
Glumslöv (Carmelite nuns' chapel): twice a month
Ängelholm (St. Bernadette's Chapel): irregular
time for masses.
the readings must be read in Swedish from the one commonly used in the diocese's worship life
the Bible version, Bible 2000. The texts should only be read in Swedish, not in Latin.
If the good of the souls so requires, the bishop may grant permission for baptism, the sacrament of penance, marriage
and the anointing of the sick is celebrated according to the older order
(cf. Benedict XVI,
Summorum pontificum art. 9 $ 1). Without such consent, the sacraments must always be celebrated according to
current form.
These regulations apply from September 1, 2021.
