On 15th February Francis accepted the resignation of Cardinal José Lacunza, 79, of the diocese of David in Panama.
Lacunza is in the midst of mysterious events. First he disappeared for 48 hours, then his private computer was stolen.
His successor is Father Luis Enrique Saldaña Guerra, 57, OFM. He was born in David and ordained a priest in 2006 and is currently the Provincial of the Franciscan Province of Central America and the Caribbean.

The Cardinal made news two weeks ago, after disappearing for two days, only to be found by police “disoriented”. On Feb 4, he told the faithful at mass, “I want to offer you my apology and ask for your forgiveness for the trouble I caused you in recent days. I know you had a bad time. Some shed abundant tears. I don’t deserve them, I tell you sincerely, but I appreciate them. And above all I appreciate your prayers…It was a stupid prank. The fact is I didn’t do them when I was 15 years old and now I’ve done it when I am going to turn 80. How outrageous! The older you are, the more stupid.”
