Israeli State Official Asks Benedictine Abbot to Remove Cross

An anti-Christian incident occurred during an official visit to the Western Wall by the German Minister of Education and Research, Bettina Stark-Watzinger.

An official from the Western Wall Heritage Foundation – an Israeli government body - asked Abbot Nikodemus Schnabel of the Dormition Abbey, Jerusalem, who accompanied Stark-Watzinger, to remove his pectoral cross.

Schnabel who was still outside the Jewish prayer area, replied: “This is very serious; you are not respecting my religion. You are obstructing my human rights. Mine is not a provocation, I am an abbot. This is my dress, and the cross is part of it.”

In Jerusalem, Jewish attacks on Christians are very common.

The authority has apologized for the mistake of their officer! Father Schnabel should not trumpet the mistake of an insignificant official to the world. He was also accompanied by two women (a journalist and a German minister) who favor very left-wing politics.
