Against Catholics: US Secretary Lies Under Oath
US Senator Josh Hawley asked Attorney General Merrick Garland in an April 11 letter to reveal how many “undercover informants” or other agents spy in Catholic parishes and other religious groups.
Hawley is a Presbyterian while Garland is Jewish. Last month, Hawley questioned Garland under oath before the Senate Judiciary Committee about an “emerging pattern” of “anti-Catholic actions.”
Among the questions was whether Garland's department was “cultivating sources and spies” in Latin Mass and other Catholic parishes and he replied, “No, the Justice Department does not do that.” He added, “I don’t believe we have any informants aimed at Catholic churches.”
Hawley notes that recent investigative findings have shown that “all of this was false” and “appears to have been a lie”.
