The new Rite of Baptism, which is so stripped down that it can be completed in about 10 minutes, depending on the number of candidates, is a favorite occasion for “affected” clergy to put on a (nauseating) performance that can last more than an hour. Of course, in Germany, they’re enrolling the baptized into paying the church tax, which is all that the bishop cares about, anyway.
