Francis met with Hungary's Prime Minister Victor Orbán, a Protestant, on April 21 giving him a bronze medallion depicting St. Martin, born in Hungary, protecting the poor: “I give it to you thinking of the arrival of so many refugees from Ukraine” (video below).

Hungarian ambassador Eduard von Habsburg who entered right after the conversation commented, “From what I hear it was a long and cordial meeting.”
During his September 2021 visit in Budapest, Francis showed little cordiality towards the extremely popular Orbán.
