The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, 59, has condemned the Israeli attack on the Catholic school in Gaza on the morning of 7 July.
"Images and media reports from the scene show scenes of civilian casualties and the destruction of the compound," the cardinal writes.
The Sacred Family School in Gaza, which is owned by the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, has been a place of refuge for hundreds of civilians since the beginning of Israel's war against the population of Gaza.
Pizzaballa hopes for "an immediate end to the horrifying bloodbath and humanitarian catastrophe in the region". At least four people were murdered in the attack on the school, according to AFP.
Recently, the parish priest of Gaza, Father Gabriel Romanelli, has returned to Holy Family parish. His superior, Father Carlos Ferrero, who was also in Gaza, told Lpj.org (8 July) that the faithful in Gaza are exhausted: "The only thing they are experiencing is suffering".
