Lausanne/Geneva/Fribourg Bishop Charles Morerod, Switzerland, suppressed all masses in the Canton of Geneva until May 15 – “including during the Easter period.”
His argument, "It's impossible to guarantee the two meters social distance between people."
Morerod admits that "it is vital for us to pray together and receive the Eucharist, but that doesn’t absolve us from the duty not to cause the death of others, and to obey the authorities of our rule of law."
Only relatives a admitted to funerals. A Sunday Mass will be transmitted on EgliseCatholique-Ge.ch.
On February 29, the first "Catholic" Mass in the Protestant Saint Pierre Cathedral in Geneva since the Reformation was scheduled to take place. Everybody was invited to pick up Communion. The coronavirus also cancelled this event.

The people should be out beating down the door of the bishop demanding Holy Week be observed, come hell or high water. But, they won't, They will probably be relieved that they don't have to go to Holy Week celebrations

Someone interview the "Catholics" in these towns. I would be interested to know what, if anything, people will "do" in the meantime.

Hopefully what they'll do involves cancelling their online "giving/ tithing" and using the time to draft an extremely polite yet brutally clear letter to Bishop Morerod why they will NOT be resuming it. Parish financial councils can easily take care of parish finances and his Excellency can starve.

Why not live stream? If some don't have a TV or a computer they can share with family members who do. What are they doing in Zürich?

H Cannoli Holy Communion is Real and necessary for salvation not viral nor virtual. It's time to learn basics heretic and apostate!

As a rule, there never has been any direct contact between the minister of communion and the recipient. The minister (that's the priest and nobody else) places the Eucharist on the tongue. He touches the Eucharist, not the tongue.
What's truly despicable is the way the enemies within the Church are jumping on this manufactured crisis to impose their own reforms and agendas.More

I always push the Host off my index finger with my thumb, dropping it on the tongue. By time the Host is touching the tongue, it is not touching my fingers. People should close their eyes so they can't try to "help" the priest by "licking" the Host out of his fingers. People generally stick their tongues out too far and don't open their mouths wide enough. And they don't put their heads back far …More

Are you referring to me as a heretic and apostate! ?
Very insulting, unproven but typical of you, my dear little man. From past interactions I have tried to avoid you simply because you are a lout, an insulting individual who is prone to jump to oafish conclusions. Do yourself a big favor and stay where you belong...on the …More

During these times, why not suspend communion and the mass entirely as some dioceses are already doing? Will I be eternally damned for this belief? I don't think so. It is a temporary defensive measure employed under the given conditions.
Even in normal times, I never drink from the cup anyway. That’s me. If my actions bother someone, then they are free to do as they wish. Common sense in …More

Even in normal times, I never drink from the cup anyway. That’s me. If my actions bother someone, then they are free to do as they wish. Common sense in all things. Said another way discretion is the better part of valor.

Holy Cannoli: I have been shocked to see how many Catholics believe that the Sacred Species kill all microbes. I think the hysteria about Mass cancellations may be coming from people who believe that frequent reception of Communion will kill the virus, and that they are being denied this remedy. I think the decision to cancel public Masses is the right decision. People should not be gathering ANYWHERE for ANY REASON.

I think many pious Catholics are reasoning backwards: Their first premise is: "Nothing can justify cancelling Masses." They conclude that the coronavirus is a hoax.
