Deficient Priestly Formation: Francis Messes Up Urbi Et Orbi Blessing

Francis got the December 25 Christmas Blessing Urbi et Orbi wrong. He said: “Et benedictio Dei omnipotentis: Patris et Filius [sic!] et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.”

The correct formula would have been, „Et benedictio Dei omnipotentis: Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti descendat super vos et maneat semper.

Additional to the wrong case for "son" (filius instead of filii), he omitted the second half of the formula which indicates the recipient of the blessing, thus creating a defect of the form.

Paus Franciscus heeft blijkbaar geen seminarie, geen opleiding voor priester gehad.

Bergoglio could not give a good $%@#, quite frankly. He needs to go-- what is taking so long?
Vincent Capuano
I am betting that he does not give many Latin blessings.

What is your bet: intention or error?
Kenjiro M. Yoshimori
Absolutely intentional. You can see it in the expression on his face. Very dismissive of the traditional way of doing the papal blessing.

The double defect of the form makes it invalid, because in the valid formula of the papal blessing Urbi et Orbi the Catholic faithful who receive the blessing are those who respond Amen, not the Pope who imparts the blessing.

Sancti Apostoli Petrus et Paulus: de quorum potestate et auctoritate confidimus, ipsi intercedant pro nobis ad Dominum.
℟: Amen.

That should be Francis' motto, and the motto for his whole pontificate.

Latin is not his thing.

Perfectly understandable... after all, why should the temporal head of The Church know The Church's official language? :D

I just took a second look at this clip. Francis did the whole Urbi and Orbi blessing wrong, not just what was mentioned in this post. Below is what he should have said. That he omitted it all I think was deliberate, another act of hatred for Catholic and papal tradition.

Nowadays I feel very anxious about the rumors of Pope Francis' health. All sorts of wild theories go through my mind. Like what if they switched the real Pope Francis with an imposter look alike who fumbled up the blessing 😱 😲. A decade of one of my rosaries is reserved for Pope Francis.

That type of conspiracy theory is unlikely. They had the same theory about Paul VI years ago, that they assasinated the real Paul VI and put in a double who proceeded to destroy the MAss, etc. We see the real Francis. He is exactly what people here and on other CAtholic sites see him to be. He hates Catholic tradition, he hates the Mass, and he hates anything that is specifically "papal", which is why he skipped the blessing. His very first moment as Pope he came out on the balcony not dressed as most Popes have done, but rather just in the white cassock. I think if he had a choice, he would not have even used that, but instead would have appeared on the balcony in a white clergy-shirt, or mabe even street-clothes. As to the "rumors about his health", I thought it was just wishful gossip, until I saw it repeated on 5-6 totally professional and accurate websites. It's all true. Pope Francis is very seriously ill. Unlike with JPII, when the Vatican admitted he had degenerative Parkinsons Disease, they will cover up Francis' terminal illness, because the radical liberals/heretics need him to accomplish their destruction of the Church. He will claim, and they will claim, that he is perfectly well until it will be obvious that he is not. they won't admit that he is terminally ill until he is actually dying...or dead.

Very true!

1. It has been evident since he “humbly” appeared on the balcony in March, 2013, that he couldn’t care less about anything liturgical. Priests of his generation snicker with hate at anyone who does care.
2. He is not very bright.

The one good thing about priests of Francis generation, is that they are od his age or older. He is a radical Jesuit. When we remember that most Jesuits living today are of his generation, and some before, but very, very few after, we should feel better in that regard. Likewise all pro-Vatican II priests. People like Cupich and Gregory represent the class of priests formed during the first wave of Vatican II, and their generation are its biggest supporters....but they around the world are ALL somewhere in their 70's or early 80's. The second wave of priests supportive of Vatican II were formed in the late 1970's to around 1982-83. They too, are now in their very late 60's, to early 70's. Beyond 1983-84 and we get into classes of priests who are less supportive of VAtican II, experiencing the first glimmers of an interest in the ancient traditions of the Church and the Latin Mass. This only increases in the 1990's, and especially between 2005 until today. So with very few exception, the generations of priests who are die-hard radicals supporting Vatican II in the mold of Francis and his trolls like Cupich and Gregory are between 69 to anywhere in their 80's. Francis, and those like him with a hatred/distain for the traditions of the Church and liturgy are dying out.
It's possible that with the Urbi and Orbi, Francis simply forgot, because he's done it correctly before. Maybe he was feeling sick. I would like to assume that he just forgot, even though the book was being held in his face with the correct formula. Otherwise, it's just another example that he's a heretic who should not be there in the first place.

@Kenjiro M. Yoshimori I think that it’s unwise to trust the “biological solution” to fix any of our current problems. @Kenjiro M. Yoshimori I think that it’s unwise to trust the “biological solution” to fix any of our current problems. Presbytetrates are highly political environments, and a young priest has to be “admitted to the club” within the first couple years after ordination to have any chance at advancing to a position where he can have wide influence. This means adopting whatever the pet issue of the current bishop is, generally. Many solid young priests have given up on their convictions in order to look good to their superiors. Very few are advancing without being polluted. The fact that we went through nearly 35 years of 2 “conservative” Popes has not effected a “sea change” in the general quality of Catholic clergy would be some pretty convincing evidence of this. The change is going to come from people actually losing “faith” in the way things have been being done. They will stop contributing, and the physical infrastructure will crumble. This is also the only way the secular situation can be righted, in my opinion. We need to pray for God’s Will to be done.
