India Picks Fight With Sisters of Mother Theresa

The Indian Hindu government denied Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity the licence to continue to receive funds from abroad.

India’s Ministry of Home Affairs decided this on Christmas Day and later explained without explaining that they found “adverse inputs” when considering the application.

The sisters' charity was blocked days after it had faced a police investigation for “hurting religious sentiments of Hindus.” It had been accused gratuitously of carrying out "forced conversions" in a home for poor girls in Vadodara (Gujarat) by making them read Christian texts and take part in prayers.

Sunita Kumar, a Calcutta spokeswoman for the Missionaries of Charity, told NyTimes.com she expected the problem to be resolved. Foreign donations to the MCs made up more than $13 million during last financial year.

...such a clever cartoon...

If the spokeswoman for the sisters is this confident, it means the Hindu govt. just wanted a bigger "rishvat" (bribe), typical third-world corruption.

@Ultraviolet :) That spelling (of rishwat) may be telling.
And... likely yes. A bureaucrat hates to see money pass them.More

Oh? How so? Especially since you recognize there's a difference @Facts Not Lies. I translated rishvat from Hindi.. Rishwat is Urdu, yes? Hindi seemed more appropriate given the country. If this happened in Pakistan, then rishwat would be the better choice. Have I missed something?

Its a war on Christianity.
