Leo XIV Promoted an Enemy of Roman Rite: Bishop Ends Mass before Moving to Huge Diocese
Bishop Daniel Garcia, 65, ended the 17-year-old Roman Rite Mass in Hollister in a letter dated 14 September, reports Rorate-Caeli.blogspot.com.
Pope Francis appointed Monsignor Garcia as Bishop of Monterey, California, in 2018 (215,000 Catholics and 95 priests). In July, Leo XIV promoted him to the vast diocese of Austin, Texas (700,000 Catholics, and 220 priests).
Monsignor Garcia was installed as Bishop of Austin on 18 September.
In the 14 September letter, he announced that the final Mass in Hollister would take place on 13 October.
He portrays the Latin Mass as being contrary to 'unity', a word he uses six times in his letter.
In Bishop Garcia’s new diocese of Austin, the Roman rite at the cathedral ceased in March 2025.
In addition to the 5 Dubias, Cardinal Burke or someone braver who isn't afraid to confront Prevost, or perhaps Cardinal Muller, should include the following questions: 1. Do you believe in Original Sin? Why did Christ come? 2. What is sin? Do you believe in Hell? Do you believe homosexuality and adultery are sins? Do you know what Holiness is? 3. What is the Great Apostasy, and for whom does Christ come a second time? 4. Do you believe in Divine Revelation? 5. Should we ask him if he has read the Baltimore and St. Pius X Catechisms? 6. Why did Judas betray Christ and sell him to be crucified? Why does he also betray him and sell the Church to the world to be crucified by its enemies? 7. Why do you hate the Church so much? Actually the reason TC exists is that Francis was a venomous enemy of the traditional rite who got fed up waiting for Benedict to die and decided he didn’t care if he broke his heart by trashing his legacy.
@Jan Joseph No….There will be no such thing as a formal “schism,” as it were, in Holy Mother Church over this matter. Because sadly, well over 98% of the Church (including the vast, overwhelming majority of her Bishops, Priests and Religious) agree with Pope Leo and will not challenge nor oppose him openly. Certainly not to that extent.
@SonoftheChurch Sadly, what you say is true... This is especially true when you see so many self-important orthodox Catholics insisting that we should watch Leo XIV, or rather, Robert Prevost, and pray for him even more, even though it's become clear that he has no intention of adhering to orthodox doctrine... I am convinced that this absurd quietism is destroying the Catholic Church, and indeed the entire Christian Church.... it seems everyone refuses to accept that Bergoglio's twelve years were spent like this, ultimately destroying orthodox doctrine. It's a shame we can't clearly state what's false... But what can we do? This is the reality... I'm convinced that Prevost is yet another type of false pope chosen to further reinforce and solidify his own errors. If this situation continues, I'm convinced that even the papacies of John Paul II and Benedict XVI will be dismissed as anachronistic and relegated to a museum corner.... Even if we become a very small minority, even if only one person remains, I think a lot about how important it is to walk the path of true truth. Our mission is to raise our voices to protect the orthodox teachings and spread the truth until the moment our Lord Sacred Heart of Jesus permits, whether it be now or tomorrow.
