@giveusthisday We have to be realistic about how we got here. Israel was given land taken away from Palestinians beginning back in 1947-48. That was the moment every hope of peace in the middle east was lost.
It's completely unrealistic to say Palestinians can live -- or even want to live -- in the open air prison that was Gaza under the threat of ongoing genocide and ever-expanding Israeli incursions outside their boundaries to grab more and more land. That's why Israel wanted Gaza for THEIR OWN.
Well, with Trump's proposal, the land will be owned by the United States and will be neutral territory. U.S. presence will also prevent Israel's constant expansionist overreach in the region.
Palestinians have a right to a peaceful, free existence. Israel kept them imprisoned in Gaza. With US diplomacy in the Middle East they will ensure humane resettlement of Palestinians far from the oppression of Israel.
Knowing Trump and his human compassion -- after he acknowledged publicly at the press briefing with Nentanyahu present all that the Palestinians have been suffering for the past 100 years-- Trump will never go ahead with the plan unless he has agreements from the surrounding Arab nations to resettle the Palestinians in what Trump himself called (I paraphrase) "several beautiful regions where they can begin a new life of freedom and peace... without having to live in constant fear of bombing and death" or even starvation when goods going into Gaza are blockaded by the Israelis.
Is what Israel has done just? Absolutely not. But Gaza is now in complete rubble, and the Palestinians lived there as though they were in a walled prison (have you ever see the 35 foot walls that surrounded the strip?). They lived like prisoners. It's impossible to resolve that without just taking Gaza into United States control and resettling the Palestinians in Arab regions where they can live safe, free and unmolested.
That's what Israel wanted -- but with the aim of grabbing Gaza for themselves. But with this plan, they can't have it. The U.S. will own it and the U.S. will keep in check Israel expansionism in the Middle East.
