New Bishop of Leo XIV: "Female Priesthood Will Come"
On Thursday, Pope Leo XIV confirmed the election of Monsignor Beat Grögli as the new Bishop of St Gallen in Switzerland.
According to the Concordat of 1845, the cathedral chapter elects the bishop of this diocese, who is then confirmed by the Vatican.
During his first press conference, Bishop Grögli stated that Pope Francis initiated a 'synodal structure' within the Church and Leo XIV confirmed this move.
Mons. Grögli believes that women will be given greater responsibility within the Church: "It is not acceptable to organise the Church as an institution for men only." [As if the last remaining churchgoers weren't almost exclusively women.]
Regarding the "ordination" of women, Monsignor Grögli said that many small steps were necessary first, but "the path must be taken".
When asked whether he was in favour of women's "ordination", Grögli said: "I believe it will come. At some point."

The St. Gallen Mafia
The Diocese of St. Gallen is known to most Catholics as the meeting place of the infamous St. Gallen Mafia, a group of high-ranking, heterodox clerics who opposed Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger’s election to the papacy in 2005 and reportedly plotted to elect Jorge Mario Bergoglio as pope. The group had multiple meetings in St. Gallen, Switzerland, between 1995 and 2006.
The meetings were hosted by Bishop Ivo Fürer, who ordained Grögli a priest. Fürer was a heterodox cleric who has been accused of covering up sexual abuse cases in his diocese. His successor and now still administrator of the diocese, Bishop Markus Büchel, is known for his heterodox positions on homosexual behavior.
Already in 2013, Büchel called upon homosexual priests to “come out” and not to hide their homosexuality. He was then the president of the Swiss Bishops’ Conference.
It was also under Büchel’s leadership that the Swiss Bishops’ Conference asked Dr. Arnd Bünker, an LGBT activist and promoter of “homosexual liturgies,” to write up a report for the Synod of Bishops on the Family in Rome. That report asked for the admittance of “remarried” divorcees to Holy Communion.

How can this bishop not know that women’s ordination would be invalid, impossible and an instant ex-communication for simulating a sacrament. St. Peter himself cannot make a woman a priest.
Unfortunately, the Church has a Concodat written in the Swiss Constitution that does not allow the Pope to pick bishops. He's a Swiss special served up to the Vatican. Leo's hands were tied on this one. Let's see who he selects for bishops in which he has direct control. That will be more interesting.
@philosopher Yes, there are several such Concordats with nations/states, and throughout history there have been some which were way worse than this one. It’s diplomatic agreements of devolution like this in which the Vatican willingly capitulates and relinquishes its rights and authority that serve as the very DNA of the current deal between the Holy See and China, and is the foundation upon which all such deals are constructed. It’s nothing new or unusual. History is replete with such arrangements.
@SonoftheChurch Very True! Concordats have a long history going back to medieval times and the Holy Roman Empire. Even Pius XII signed them with Italy and Germany.
@SonoftheChurch @philosopher Though there is nothing written in the Swiss Constitution, Basel, St. Gallen, and Chur are dioceses in Switzerland with local election traditions, though Chur's special rights were suspended in 1990 due to conflict. Until 1929, Concordats with nations were made only with Catholic states. That has long since ended. Given the Chur precedent, if Prevost wanted to suspend the Diocesan Chapter's selection, it could be done. I won't give him cover for that reason.
@Simon North The Swiss Constitution allows for a Concodat-a treaty that defines the Church State relations and gives special privileges. The US Constitution, for example does not allow any favorable relationship with the Catholic Church or any religion. The Concodat still stands and has not been eliminated. So, yes, there still is a Concodat with and the
