@Kevin as I told
@Live Mike, you're being serious when I wasn't. Now that I
have to be serious, you're correct on all points. a.) Altar Girls..
*long unhappy sigh* as much as I enjoy poking fun at UK fail, here in Murrica we're no different -at least among Novus Ordo parishes. Worse, there are going to be even more female altar serves from now on with every passing year. His Holiness Pope Francis issued the
Apostolic Letter "Spiritus Domine" in which he, after what he describes as "theological reflection", modified Canon Law 230.1 to formally permit female altar servers. As a legalist and as a devout Catholic in full communion with The Church, I submit to his decision. I don't agree with it, but my agreement is not required, only my compliance.
I'm hoping intense parish social pressure and Church tradition itself will all but eliminate the practice in TLM parishes. Families who attend them are, as a rule, those who already recognize and value Church tradition and not recent novelties and innovations.
B.) Yes, UK parishioners (and I'm sorry to say even the secular citizens)
do have a willingness to compromise for (as you rightly say) "peace at any price". At least the Caucasians do. Since you seem well-grounded in your country's cultural short-comings, hopefully you wont't take too much umbrage when I say it's no surprise. You've always been serfs, centuries of slavery at the hands of your "nobility" has made you susceptible to it. Foreigners from violent, often knife-oriented cultures, aren't nearly as tolerant and, unsurprisingly, most aren't Christians, either.
Just to show that I try to be even-handed, many urbanized Americans today aren't all that different. Whatever rebellious spirit we had as the first colony to break away from England's crown has been educated out of us. Massachusetts, birthplace of the American Revolution, is the most totalitarian state on the entire Easter Seaboard. Again, this applies only to Caucasians. Again, interestingly, this is a
cultural issue not a
racial one. Many Blacks and Latinos have lived here longer than comparatively recent Caucasian immigrants. Yet their cultures emphasize "respect" and many will pick a fight simply because you
stared at them too long, i.e. "disrespecting" them.
What's interesting, and proves the cultural (not racial) component of this is when Caucasian youth embrace and adopt the cultural norms of either culture. Almost overnight, they develop the same instantly aggressive attitude and quickness to take offense at the slightest "disrespect". It proves this has nothing to do with whatever DNA gives an African boy or an Arab boy or a Latino boy jet-black hair and dark skin or an Irish boy red hair, freckles, and plaster-white skin. It's something minorities learn at home and Caucasians learn from their new-found friends.
This is actually a very good thing because it shows
all Caucasians can learn to have a "no-nonsense, non-submissive" attitude in defending themselves and as Catholics, defending The Church..
