Mentre Papa Leone XIV lasciava piazza di Spagna, la polizia italiana ha immediatamente fermato il tentativo di alcune attiviste di Peta (People for the Ethical treatment of animals) che si erano avvicinate alle transenne per alzare degli striscioni in modo da renderli visibili al Pontefice. La Papamobile si è fermata per qualche momento mentre gli uomini della polizia italiana procedevano ad abbassare gli striscioni. Dopo poco la Papamobile con a bordo il Pontefice ha ripreso la marcia verso il Traforo.

Dve aktivistki za pravice živali sta poskušali izobesiti napis, ki je pozival k odpravi živalskih bojev. Posredovala je policija in ju ustavila, preden sta razvili transparent. Papeška kolona je za kratek čas upočasnila vožnjo, nato pa brez večjih težav nadaljevala pot.
Počas návštevy pápeža Leva XIV. na Piazza di Spagna 8. decembra došlo pri odchode pápežskej kolóny k menšiemu incidentu. Dve aktivistky za práva zvierat sa pokúsili vyvesiť nápis vyzývajúci na ukončenie bojov so zvieratami. Polícia zasiahla a zastavila ženy skôr, ako stihli rozvinúť transparent. Pápežský automobil na chvíľu spomalil a potom pokračoval v ceste bez ďalších problémov.
