When asked about California Bishop Joseph Brennan's participation in an Anglican episcopal consecration on 18 April, Bishop Schneider described it as an ecclesiastical crime, as Monsignor Brennan took part in the simulation of an invalid ordination. Monsignor Schneider pointed out a double standard within the Church: "A bishop who participates in a schismatic, heretical and invalid so-called episcopal consecration apparently remains unpunished. At the same time, a true Catholic and valid episcopal consecration in the Priestly Fraternity of St Pius X is labelled a schismatic act."
Bishop Athanasius Schneider criticised Cardinal Reinhard Marx’s instruction to priests to perform or enable 'blessings' for same-sex couples, calling it "completely irresponsible". On 24 April, Bishop Joseph Strickland posted a comment on X regarding Pope Leo XIV's response to a question on blessings for homosexual couples in the Archdiocese of Munich during the flight from Africa to Rome.
