The author argues that Sebastian Morello incorrectly presents Neoplatonism as fundamental to Catholic theology. In fact, true Catholic tradition adopts Christian Platonism rather than Neoplatonism and explicitly rejects Neoplatonic metaphysics. Theurgy and Hermeticism, which are associated with Neoplatonism, are said to be incompatible with Christianity because they involve emanationism and polytheism. These practices are condemned by Scripture and the Church as superstitious or demonic, and they violate the First Commandment. Morello is accused of misrepresenting his critics as ignorant rather than addressing their arguments and of using accusations of scholarly incompetence as a rhetorical strategy.
