Former school director Father Andrea Melis, 60, Italy, has been put under house arrest since August 2 after being accused of homosexually abusing male teenagers for years. He is a member of the Piarist Fathers, former head of an association of Catholic schools in northern Italy, and a member of the curia of the Archdiocese of Genoa. Investigations continue into the alleged 'grooming' of at least seven young men (13-15 years old). He is also under investigation by Genoa prosecutors for child prostitution and aggravated violence. Police found in a recent search of his home various sexual objects, drugs for sexual stimulation, clothing for boys, and notes confirming his years-long relationship with the boy he allegedly abused. The judge in the case considered the priest particularly dangerous because he is HIV-positive.
