World Youth Day: Novus Ordo Communion Handed Out Like Bread

World Youth Day 2023 began on August 1 in Lisbon, Portugal, with an opening Eucharist on a profane stage before a crowd of 354,000 registered participants.

Most striking were the many lay people handing out Communion from take-away boxes (pictures below).

The official welcoming ceremony for WYD with Francis will take place on August 3 on Meeting Hill.

With so many priests - and 600 bishops - present of the opening WYD Mass it made zero sense to have lay extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion. No sense whatsoever.
