Legalistic Cardinal: Francis Wants To Cancel Roman Mass
According to him, Francis wants to re-establish throughout the Council Church the Novus Ordo as "a single and identical prayer that expresses its unity." However, this statement contradicts reality. From the beginning, the Novus Ordo has not developed as a "single and identical prayer," not even as a rite, as every Novus Ordo priest follows his own liturgical whim, and popes and bishops have constantly been accepting this.
Contradicting Benedict XVI, Cupich alleges that there are "not two forms of the Roman Rite." His argument: The word "reform" means "that we leave behind a former way of celebrating the sacraments and adopt a new form.” This is also wrong, first, because the Bugnini Eucharist is not called a "reform" but a "New Rite" [as opposed to the Roman Rite], and second, because the Novus Ordo never developed as a "form" but as liturgical chaos.
Revealing his legalistic mindset, Cupich compares the introduction of the Novus Ordo with the introduction of the 1983 Code of Canon Law and the 1993 Catechism. He doesn't understand that positive laws given by a ruler are something different than a liturgical rite or the doctrine of the faith - which have no expiration date like a mould cheese.
Cupich must be told that the 1993 Catechism didn’t "leave behind" the Faith in order to invent a new one - nor is it possible to invent a "Novus Ordo" that could "invalidate" the original rite.
