Well, hate to break up this oh so "traditional Catholic" attack on women who have dedicated their lives to God, but one of the nuns' concerns was Butker's assertion that being a homemaker is the highest calling for a woman. Well, hate to break up this oh so "traditional Catholic" attack on women who have dedicated their lives to God, but one of the nuns' concerns was Butker's assertion that being a homemaker is the highest calling for a woman. This statement goes against the true Catholic teaching that a calling to the priesthood or religious life is the highest calling: Canon X Session 24 of the Council of Trent—If any one saith, that the marriage state is to be placed above the state of virginity, or of celibacy, and that it is not better and more blessed to remain in virginity, or in celibacy, than to be united in matrimony: let him be anathema.

So in fact, one of the the nuns' concerns is based entirely in Catholic dogma which Butker contradicted.

Another of their concerns is that Butker's speech is divisive, and based on the comments here, they weren't wrong about that either.

Oh yes, it's unarguable that they are all sexually frustrated, liberal, secular humanist, traitorous, hags, who attend the wrong mass and are fit for nothing but servitude in the kitchen, and who had the temerity to even consider the thought that THEY could contradict this virile, athletic, handsome, 30 year old manly man-god who was representing the college that THEY FOUNDED, but it would seem that it is possible, old and ugly crones though they be, that they might have had a few points that didn't stem from pure witch-like malice against our infallible Catholic hero.

He said nothing wrong. Bishop Strickland and Cordileone have come out in support of him. Butker inferred that for women whose vocation is marriage, for them who are called to it is the highest vocation, not that it surpasses the vocation of religious.

@spinmeister The accusation you cite is a false accusation. In his recent speech at Benedictine College, Mr. Butker did not assert that being a homemaker is the highest calling for a woman.
In discussing his own wife, he said that she is living out her vocation, and that she embraced "one of the most important titles of all: homemaker."
