Quebec Cardinal Gérald Cyprien Lacroix, Canada, returned to work for Holy Week after having undergone bariatric surgery.
“At 62 years of age, I feel as if I am 20 years younger," he told BeauceMedia.ca (June 25). The picture attached to the article indicates that Lacroix has dramatically lost weight.
Now he is full of good resolutions, “I must change my old habits in my new way of life.”

Yes, I was witness to one who felt so great and enjoyed his new life immensely for a year or so. Then, death.
Those surgeries don't always work and can cause sudden death.

Anyone considering bariatric surgery should contemplate these two words: "dumping syndrome."

I'm glad the Cardinal has reduced his weight to healthier level. I pray he will not have the physical and emotional consequences that so very frequently follow this type of surgical weight loss. Most of all, I pray that he offers up his suffering to the Lord in union with his sufferings upon the cross ,for the restoration of the Church.
