Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán gave Francis during their September 12 meeting in Budapest the letter of Hungary's King Béla IV (+1270) to Innocent IV.
Béla warned the pope in 1250 of the Tatar-Mongol invasion calling for the unity of the Catholic nations. He was ignored. 35 years later Hungary fended off the Tatars with great bloodshed.
While Orbán was implicitly referring to the ongoing Muslim invasion into Europe, Francis urged in his only seven hours visit to extend the arms towards everyone - except Roman Rite Catholics, of course.
Several news agencies noticed that Francis and Orban took their seats several meters apart, a generous but necessary safety distance since Orbán is a Christian and Francis a conformist.

It is not the same thing. Innocent IV was busy crusading in other territories. He saw the problem of Islam perfectly.

His predecessor Andras fell under the threat of excommunication by Archbishop of Esztergom Robert who excommunicated several of his main advisors and put the country under the penalty of the interdict because the employment of Muslims in public offices (1232). In 1233 the king was compelled to swear in Beleg in front of the papal legate the solemn oath regarding Muslims and Jews. In 1239 Bela IV requested pope Gregory IX to allow farming the taxes in Hungary by non-Christians because of the necessity. In 1263 Urban IV reproached Bela for the continuation of employment of Muslim and Jewish officials. In 1265 Pope Clement IV addressed his reproaches. Meanwhile, Bela was threating Rome that he would enter the marriage alliance with the Mongols as he did with the pagan Cumans.

In my humble opinion the only way to prevent/halt the muslim invasion of Europe is that Europeans must hold on to the Christian faith/values/morals. Stop selling empty churches to muslims so that they transform it to a mosque (which always pains me when I see them taking down crosses from churches and raising their star and crescent). Mr Bergoglio can't do nothing because he takes money from muslim countries and their leaders..............he says extend the arms to everyone but not at the expense of Christian Europe.

On the other hand Matteo Salvini can stop the muslim invasion of Europe!!!

Unwarranted assumption on your part @V.R.S. Don't play "mind-reader". You don't know what Francis knows. He might very well know and simply prefer tact in favor of imitating your pretetious habit of flaunting your marginal knowledge of history while being utterly oblivious to the present.

This was supposed to be a courteous formal diplomatic meeting, as evidenced by the gift of a valuable manuscript. not the sort of contentious minutae-driven debate over medieval history you prefer.

Quite funny and symbolic. Francis does not know the European history to show the Hungarian Calvinist clown his place. Innocent IV was the great pope and Bela IV was the great debtor of the Jews (cf. H. Graetz *) for example). After his death his son and the Hungarian nobility decided enough was enough and the usury paradise ended.

*) "The people of Hungary and Poland, who had not yet laid aside their primitive state of barbarity and their warlike ferocity, were in greater need of the services of the Jews than the nations and states of Central and Western Europe. The Jews, with their commercial habits and their practical skill, had perceived the abundance of produce in the districts lying on the Lower Danube, the Vistula, and on both sides of the Carpathian mountains, had utilized, and thus first conferred value on, this source of wealth. Despite the zeal with which the papacy strove to deprive Jews of public offices, despite its efforts to restrain them from obtaining leases for working the salt mines and from farming the coinage and the taxes in Hungary, it could not expel them from positions in which they were indispensable in preventing the wealth of the country from running to waste. The Hungarian king, Bela IV, the successor of Andrew II, driven by stern necessity, the ravages of the Mongols having impoverished the country, invited Jewish agents. For the benefit of the Jews under his dominion, Bela introduced the law of Frederick the Valiant, of Austria, which protected them from the violence of the mob and the clergy, conceded to them their own jurisdiction, and allowed them the control over their domestic affairs. The papacy, however, turned its attention to the Carpathian districts, partly for the purpose of kindling a new crusade against the Mongols, and partly in order to bring back to the Roman see, by means of trickery and force, the schismatic adherents of the Greek Church. Its spiritual armies, the Dominicans and Franciscans, were despatched thither, and they instilled into the hitherto tolerant Magyars their own spirit of fanatical intolerance. A large church assembly, consisting of prelates from Hungary and the south of Poland, met at Buda (September, 1279). This convocation was under the presidency of Philip, who was the papal legate for Hungary, Poland, Dalmatia, Croatia, Slavonia, Lodomeria, and Galicia, and decreed a proscription of the Jews of these countries, which the Church executed with logical severity. Jews and other inhabitants of the country not belonging to the Roman Catholic Church were to be debarred from the right of farming the taxes [;-(((( ], or from holding any public post. Bishops and other ecclesiastics of higher or lower degree who had entrusted the farming of the revenues of their sees to the hands of Jews were
to be suspended from their holy offices. Laymen, of whatsoever rank, were to be placed under a ban of excommunication till they dismissed the Jewish contractors and employes, and had given security that henceforward they would not accept or retain such men, "because it is very dangerous to permit Jews to dwell together with Christian families, and to have intimacy with them at courts and in private houses." (...) The last king of the family of Arpad, Ladislaus IV, ratified and confirmed the statutes of the synod in Hungary." (Graetz: History of the Jews)

If that is indeed what you are - Let's face it, Luther, Robespierre, Stalin or Hitler may have addressed people who are hoping to reestablish Christian Laws within their society as contemptuously as you have done here, but I find it hard to understand why you make Their approach your own.

We are no longer living in the days of Calvin, when people in their pride chose to separate from the RC Church. These people, through no fault of their own, have been brought up outside the Church and should not be assessed as if they have chosen to depart from within Her boundaries as an act of their own stubborn pride.

I hope he doesn't read your comment.

No, Madam. However you look at it that sentence of mine does not look for you and ecumaniac superstitions of yours. I call a fig a fig, a heretic a heretic and a clown trying to make cheap tragifarce from history of Europe and the Church a clown.
