Belgian Bishops Publish Liturgy For "Blessing" Homosex Liaisons
Brussel Cardinal Josef De Kesel, 75, and the Flemish bishops published a September 20 statement about “Being pastorally close to homosexuals.” It includes a prayer service for "blessing" homosex liaisons.
The bishops claim that homosexuals living upon their gender disorder (“choose to live as a couple”) deserve “appreciation and support.”
They consider - what Church and Bible call abomination and sin - a “source of peace and shared happiness for those involved.”
The liturgy provides - in addition to prayers and a Scripture reading - the "engagement of the two people involved". They express like in a marriage before "god" how they commit to each other. In one line of the prayer service, the homosexuals ask "god" to "grant us strength to be faithful to each other and deepen our commitment. On your nearness we trust, from your Word we want to live.”
The bishops' statement says it is based on Francis’ Amoris Laetitia. They will meet Francis for their Ad Limina visit soon.
The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith noted in 2021 that God “cannot bless sin.”
