This is going to be a long post ladies and gentlemen
Card. Cupich and the Chicago Diocese have been doing this FOR YEARS. This is likely one of the least offensive Chinese New Year celebrations he has headed up . In 2016 it was held in St. Terese Church. Source: The Chicago Tribune:
www.chicagotribune.comAlso another ceremony, this time covered by " Chicago Catholic "( the Diocesan paper):
www.chicagocatholic.com/…/serving-the-new…This is a tad off topic, but related to Cupich and his penchant for Ecumenical Everything, it is in fact listed on the " Catholic Chicago Bucket List " this article expounds upon the " joy and peace of Taize prayer". What is a Taize service? " The answer is provided here by a Catholic Answers thread ( link to entire thread at bottom) here as explained by Josie Elaine in regards to queries regarding it's origin and " Catholicity".
" You associate Taize with the protestants becuse it was started by a Swiss protestant minister by the name of Roger Schutz during world War II in France . The founder went by the name of Brother Roger and he remained at the head of the community until his death in 2005 . His approach is non-doctrinal and non-denominational .Roger Schutz participated in the Vatican Ii Council and Pope John-Paul visited the French monastery himself in October 1986. All religion are welcome, Jews,Catholics, Hindus and Buddhists and even non-religious people. The candles, the icons, the music, the songs, the incense, etc., are a reminescence of Medieval times , before the Reformation . A lot of nostagia there … They are also very involved in social-justice issues . They have no specific creeds or doctrines . No specific clergy is required . It does not have anything in common with any Protestant worship service of today . Does this answer your question ?
