Give discredit where it is due. No one is excusing this but sacrilegious communion in the hand while standing had it's beginning in disobedience in Holland. Look it up.

This is horrible! Lord have mercy!

EM’s? They’re no E ‘Ministers’. A minister is one who has been ordained. A priest whose hands have been consecrated. I prefer to call them ‘lay distributors’. As for the dispenser.. its an abomination. And what happens when a person wants to receive on the tongue? And not ‘minister’ to himself. Where’s the reverence and Respect for Lord? That some think its fine to shoot Him (our Lord) out like a piece of cookie dough or candy? He should be reported and I hope his parishioners have done so by now. Would hate to see what he does in the case of the sacrament of Extreme Unction!

This conversation brings to mind a little story. I had a young lady, sitting right in front of me at mass, sneeze into her hand right before the 'kiss of peace' (read: handshake). She turned around, looked at me and extended her hand. There is no way on earth I would ever shake that disease ridden hand of hers. I attempted to give her a "fist bump" ( I do it with my friends) but she looked at me in …More

@Holy Cannoli, how about teaching/expecting basic hygiene to EMCs? I saw one of those Emacs run their hand thru their hair after using the prominently displayed sanitizer. Yeesh.

I don't like the dispenser but the church has bigger problems.

I keep seeing "Eucharistic ministers" using hand sanitizer right before they distribute communion. I've seen it at other churches as well. The first time I saw it at mine, I wrote the pastor, and it stopped.
I've also seen this done but I have absolutely NO objection to the practice. Why not?

What if you knew for a fact that the EM you received the Eucharist from had been picking the inside of her/his nose or picking or scratching some other body orifice immediately before heading to the altar to distribute communion? For the sake of discussion, let's say that you even saw this person scratching their jaja or sneezing into their hands before walking to the altar. Would you be comfortable receiving the Eucharist from this person? Would you not be at all concerned that there may very well be bacteria on his/her fingers that would be transferred to the host and then transferred to each and every person who was in their specific line to receive including you?

And, if for some reason you would not be concerned that there may be bacteria on this person's hands, how exactly would that be possible if, in fact, his/her hands where in places on the body that are known to harbor millions of microbes? Does the fact that the person is about to distribute communion miraculously insulate this person from both picking up bacteria on their hands and then transferring that potentially disease causing bacteria via the Eucharist?

Personally, for the sake of normal hygiene, cleanliness and to prevent disease, I'm glad that there are churches use hand sanitizers for their EMs. 👌

Yah, this isn't a Catholic Mass.
In a local parish here, I keep seeing "Eucharistic ministers" using hand sanitizer right before they distribute communion. I've seen it at other churches as well. The first time I saw it at mine, I wrote the pastor, and it stopped.More
