Francis told young Russian Catholics in August 25 video exchange to be "peacemakers" and "bridge builders".
"Do not forget your heritage. You are heirs of the great Russia - the great Russia of the saints, of kings, the great Russia of Peter the Great, of Catherine II [a German], the great Russian Empire, cultured, so much culture, so much humanity. You are the heirs of the great Mother Russia“, Francis said. The great majority of Catholics in Russia are of Polish or Lithuanian origin.
Western oligarch's media used Francis’s remarks to provoke uproar.
Ukrainian Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk said Francis' words caused “great pain and concern”.
Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni tried to defuse the controversy saying on August 29 that Francis wanted to encourage young people to preserve what is positive in Russia's great cultural heritage and "certainly not to exalt imperialistic logics and governing figures."
Speculation is that Francis wants to meet Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill in …More

I don't know of any Russian saints. Are there any?

Gosh, there are a lot of Russian saints. Saint Anthony of the Caves, Saint Theodosius of the Caves, Saint Stephen of Perm, Saint Sergius of Radonezh, Saint Vladimir, Saint Olga, Saints Boris and Gleb, martyrs Saint Theodore the Varangian and his son John, Saint Seraphim of Sarov. They are also recognized as saints by the Orthodox.

Dreams me arse..The BVM traveled 100 miles to commission John the Baptist and assist her cousin. Feeling ,dreaming, won't get you there ,you have to DO.

Francis to young Russians: "The meeting point between Mary and Elizabeth is dreams. They both dreamed. The young dream, the old dream. It is precisely ... the ability to dream, the vision of tomorrow that has kept and sustains generations together..."

You may say he's a dreamer, but he's not the only one.

The Vatican's attempt to cover-up/apologize for Francis stupid comments didn't work. He's very much hated in Italy itself, many people know he is an illegit Pope. But now he's made enemies of not only most of Eastern Europe which suffered under Russia Empire (The Poles, Lithuanians, Latvians, Ukranians, Jews, Catholics), but Western Europeans who know his remarks were wrong.

He is good at insulting traditional Catholics of his own Church....which he hates. Now he's insulted nearly all of Eastern Europe.
Most people know he's a buffoon compared to past Popes of high culture and scholarship, but he certainly proved it with these remarks......which no effort of his gay associates in the VAtican press office can fix.

We Catholics are the heirs of the really truly great Latin Mass. We however are bullied, insulted and abused because we refuse to forget our truly great heritage. He incites us burn the bridges to our Catholic heritage and whatever we do "don't turn back". Its an inversion of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Very grotesque and proof of extreme ignorance of papa Bergoglio.
Peter the Great belonged to quasi-masonic club of The All-Joking, All-Drunken Synod of Fools and Jesters mocking religious ceremonies and institutions.
Sophie Anhalt-Zerbst (aka Catherine the Great Indifferentist) went from Lutheranism through the Eastern Schism to prophets of the cult of reason exclaiming Ecrasez l'Infame!

She brought three partitions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth destroying the homeland of Polish, Lithuanian and Russian Catholics (of Latin and Eastern rites)

And, yet Russian Christian philosophers are taught in Traditional LatinMass seminaries. You have to recognize the good and reject the errors.

@V.R.S. I happen to know personally from Priest friends and a professor that Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and Tolstoy are covered at St. Mary's and St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary SSPX. So, you're saying that there is no good in Solzhenityn and Tolstoy. I think your anti-Russian presupositions are showing through, and blinding you from their insights into the nature of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.

as I referred above to Tsar Peter and Tsarina Catherina not to them.

BTW, philosophies of Solzhenitsyn (humanism) and Tolstoy (pacifism) are both flawed and non-Catholic.

PS So-called "Great Russia" is a product of mutated byzantinism mixed with Mongolian influence and adorned with judaizing heretical pseudo-messianism. Not an interesting thing for the world. Read Holy Israel Sacred Russia book for example.
She is spreading her errors as Our Lady said.

Yes, some Westerners - His Excellency Williamson and His Excellency Vigano (with his lamentable pernicious comments about the Third Rome) among them - are under some delusions about Russia.

But people do not want to know and learn from history - that is the problem. Nowadays they are buying the false alternative: Putin (Xi Jinping) - Zelensky (Biden), Russia - Ukraine like a thoughtless mob watching the wrestling show produced for them.

@V.R.S. Why not dial down your ego a bit. I have nothing against you personally, so, no need for ad hominems like useful idiot etc. You asked, "what Russian philosophers have been taught in a Catholic way" and I gave two examples to which you confirmed the conclusion of my premises that you find nothing good in them.
