Francis got a phone call during the August 11 General Audience, Mountain Butorac (The Catholic Traveler) wrote on Twitter.com (August 11).
He comments, "Haven’t seen this before." Francis had just imparted the final blessing, when the phone was handed to him by his assistant. He quickly left saying that he would be back.
In a posting, James E Hurford seems to know who was calling Francis, "Frankie! It's Bill. Yes, Bill Gates. Klaus and I wanted to discuss your agenda for the next few months. Is now a good time?"
Jesus Loves TLM suggests it was the pizza delivery man, and Novus Ordo Watch says, "Maybe someone called in to report a Traditionis Custodes infraction?"
Cold Noodle Queen sees a problem with Francis' upbringing, "Didn’t his mother teach him manners? How rude to take the call in such circumstances. What an insult for his audience!" and Mark Bak, "No class."

You gotta show some charity to the Holy Father, bro. :D Give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he was just calling his dealer for another bag of "Yerba Mate". ;-)

But in another departure from the routine, Francis on Wednesday abruptly changed direction while chatting with another aide as he was about to descend the stage steps. Instead of greeting the faithful, he headed toward a closed exit door on the stage.
First the aide, then the pope, gestured to the participants that they should wait. The aide opened the door, and the pope walked briskly off the stage. After a few minutes, Francis returned and went down the marble steps to the audience section to mingle with people who wanted to shake his hand or take selfies with him.

What could be so important that Francis interrupted his weekly adulation session?

And why would anyone want to shake his hand, let alone wait for the "privilege"?

I dunno if he (Francis) has any sense of propriety. Didn't he recently make a priest take his (Francis') call while the latter was in the midst of celebrating Mass! BTW this action is forbidden by liturgical rubrics!
