Dominican Father Joseph Tran Ngoc Thanh, 40, was stabbed to death on Saturday while hearing confessions at a church in Kontum, Vietnam.
He was slashed twice in the head and died in hospital at 11:30 pm despite immediate treatment. Father Joseph was the seventh child of his family. Born on 10 August 1981 in Saigon, he was ordained a priest on August 4, 2018.
The assassin is said to be a psychopath, but no further information is available. In 2021, Father Tran Van Truyen, 70, was fatally stabbed in Kontum Diocese.

The SSPX chapel didn't suspend confessions during the worst of COVID. The diocesan Latin Mass effort had great numbers for confession, so it isn't all bad. What's bad is a Passionist priest who said Communion would be medicine for a particular mortal sin, which is fine, after confessing sin, but he seemed to say it in a way that the mortal sin was not a mortal sin. That's nice, Prayhard. The FSSP didn't suspend confessions either. Around these parts, the pastor and the Knights of Columbus jury-rigged a "confession screen" for the front door to the rectory porch. The faithful had to kneel outdoors in the middle of winter, BUT... everyone was submissive and compliant with the Bishop's orders.
