Bishop Schneider: Christ’s enemies have carried out “a hostile takeover” of the Church. At the Catholic Identity Conference in Pittsburgh on October 4, Bishop Athanasius Schneider delivered a diagnosis of the crisis in the Church, describing it as a “hostile takeover” from within. “We are witnesses of an unprecedented crisis of the Church,” Schneider said, pointing to “poisonous doctrinal ambiguities” and even “brazen heresies in the ranks of the high clergy”. “The world Christ warned of seems to have occupied the Church’s strategic administrative positions. There took place a hostile takeover.” Schneider said the crisis now affects virtually every aspect of Church life: “doctrine, morals, liturgy, discipline.” He also spoke of the “marginalization and a true persecution” within the Church of “all what is true Catholic.”

What about things that matter “much, much more”? “Does Pope Leo have the light, the will, and the courage” to reverse the “draconian restrictions” on the liturgy imposed through Traditionis Custodes and the “ongoing revolution” of the Synod on Synodality, Montagna asked. “Or does he feel beholden to those who elected him or to those who surround him?” While Leo repeatedly speaks of unity, Montagna asked “what he wants unity with.” “Does he want uniformity with the ideologies of the past pontificate, or will he allow us to return to the idea of reform in conformity with tradition?”

Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa of Jerusalem has expressed his condolences following the deaths of two Palestinian Christian women in an Israeli air strike on Gaza City. “With deep sorrow and grief,” the Patriarch mourned Maysa Khader Ibrahim Abu Daoud (Ayyad) and Mary Hafez Michel Najjar (Abu Daoud). The two women, who were mother and daughter, were killed in the strike on the night of October 2. On behalf of the Patriarchate, its clergy and faithful, Cardinal Pizzaballa extended his “deepest condolences” to the families of the two women and to Gaza’s Christian community. He prayed that their relatives and loved ones might find comfort, strength and hope in their loss. The funeral was held on Saturday, October 3, at the Greek Orthodox church St. Porphyrius in Gaza. The part of the faithful, God tells St. Catherine, is to weep over the sins of clergy who do not follow God’s will, and to call upon His mercy for them.
At the same time, He laments the many sins of faithless clergy, including promiscuity, lying with prostitutes, selling graces, usury, gluttony, avarice toward the poor, vanity in seeking high offices, greed for worldly riches, and, as He tells St. Catherine, many more sins far worse than what He describes. He tells her how abominable these sins are in His sight, and how deeply these ministers offend Him. Yet He makes it clear to St. Catherine that His people must give reverence to His priests no matter how sinful the priests may be, and leave the judgment to God

US Bishop attends smudging ceremony. On July 11, the Diocese of Raleigh hosted its first multicultural celebration honoring St. Kateri Tekakwitha - the first North American Indigenous saint - at Holy Cross Church. The gathering included discussions, music, and indigenous dances. Richard Duran, a member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe from Arizona, led a smudging ceremony, which the diocese described as sharing cleansing smoke “as an act of prayer and spiritual connection.” Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama was present and drew laughter when he said he would dance with his heart, not his body, because dancing to music can frustrate him. Smudging has nothing to do with St. Kateri. She left her indigenous community and moved to the Christian Mohawk community at Kahnawake, where she could freely live her Catholic faith.
The bishop of Raleigh, North Carolina participated over a shamanistic “smudging” ceremony to celebrate St. Catherine “Kateri” Tekakwitha, who rejected her native Mohawk religion. Pascua Taqui tribe member Richard Duran led the congregation of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Durham in a “smudging” ceremony in July. Smudging is a shamanic ritual that involves burning herbs and resins to “cleanse” a space of negative energy.

One day, he decided to visit the monastery of Subiaco to venerate Saint Benedict. This fresco, the work of an anonymous 13th-century painter, is the oldest representation of the "Poverello of Assisi" and is in the Chapel of Saint Gregory, in the cave of Subiaco. It was painted during the saint's lifetime, before he received the stigmata. This portrait of Saint Francis of Assisi is found in one of the caves of Subiaco. It seems marvelous to me! It depicts a man of about 30 years old. It estimated medical errors kill 251,454 Americans a year, which makes them the third leading cause of death, behind only heart disease and cancer. And it gets worse. A 2023 Johns Hopkins and Harvard study found that misdiagnosis alone kills an estimated 371,000 Americans a year and leaves another 424,000 permanently disabled. If an airline killed that many people, nobody would ever board a plane again.
