Bishop Marcus Stock has submitted a report to Pope Leo XIV recommending the unification of Leeds, Middlesbrough and Hallam, which together serve approximately 496,000 Catholics in 193 parishes. Monsignor Stock, Bishop of Leeds since 2014, also serves as Apostolic Administrator of Middlesbrough and Hallam. The recommendation follows an extensive consultation involving priests, deacons, religious communities, lay Catholics, diocesan councils, trustees and Catholic schools. Nine in-person meetings were held, and an online questionnaire received 840 responses.
