Leo XIV increases salaries for cardinals and senior Vatican officials. Today, Leo XIV has abolished the pay cuts introduced by Francis in 2021. Francis had ordered a 10% salary cut for cardinals working for the Holy See and an 8% reduction for senior officials and curial secretaries as the Vatican faced financial difficulties. Other clergy and religious employees initially faced a 3% cut, which was abolished in 2025. Leo XIV’s new motu proprio, effective September 1, abrogates the 2021 decree in its entirety. He claimed the measures had been necessary due to the “exceptional challenge of the pandemic,” but could now be superseded as the Holy See and Vatican City pursue economic sustainability “through different instruments.” #newsRxifznfisa

A 17-year-old Dutch girl was killed by euthanasia after doctors concluded that she was experiencing “unbearable and hopeless psychological suffering”. Milou Verhoof died on 2 October 2023 after suffering from mental-health problems for years and undergoing repeated treatments. Her case was later examined by the Netherlands’ Regional Euthanasia Review Committees, which found that the doctor had complied with the country’s legal requirements for euthanasia. Because Milou was 17, her parents had to be involved in the decision-making process, although Dutch law did not require their consent. Her parents ultimately supported her "decision". The case later drew objections from fourteen doctors, mostly psychiatrists, who asked prosecutors to examine aspects of her euthanasia, including questions about her capacity to decide and possible influence from those around her. God entrusts us with wonderful gifts of nature and grace so that we may make them bear fruit for His glory and for the salvation of our brothers and sisters. If we misuse them, that is: doing evil, or squander them , our future faces the risk of “Eternal doom”, Dear brothers and sisters, the Word of God invites us not to waste time with those who work and build upon the “sand” of their “boundless ego,” but rather to work tirelessly alongside with all our brothers and sisters who wish to build their lives upon the “Rock” that is Christ.

Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández will publish a new document this October addressing the growing rupture in the transmission of Christianity between generations. It calls for “a Church capable of welcoming everyone in a different way, precisely as they are.” Requested by Pope Francis in his final days, the text was continued with Pope Leo XIV’s encouragement. Former Italian priest Luca Favarin, 54, has become a father.
