About hundred young Catholics prevented a Tuesday evening rock concert by the Swedish singer Anna von Hausswolff, 35, in the big Notre Dame de Bon-Port Church in Nantes, France.
They blocked all entrances while singing the Hail Mary. The concert was scheduled for 8pm but was cancelled around 9.30pm. As a consequence, Hausswolff's upcoming concert in Saint Eustache Church in Paris was also cancelled.
Libanon born Bassem Asseh, first deputy mayor of Nantes, a socialist, insulted the courageous Catholics as a "handful of intolerant radicals." Aymeric Seassau, the municipal deputy for culture, a member of the obscurantist French Communist Party, accused the young protesters of being "obscurantists."
Hausswolff has already performed in some forty churches and cathedrals.

Such things are done in the Church of the New Advent. Once, 8 years ago I was invited by my friend to a pontifical solemn Mass in one of Polish historical shrines (of St. Hedwig). Sacred spaces are NOT concert halls. I don't care who is performing.
The practice of 'renting' out the Church for secular events opens the doors to discrimination lawsuits wherein the Church can legitimately be sued for disallowing certain groups. Perfect storm for front page headlines about how the Church is anti-FILL-IN-THE-BLANK. The higher ups KNOW this. They're chess players of a sort, so the idea that diocese are caught unaware is unbelievable to me. The powers-that-be are either fifth columnists, intentionally destroying the Church from within, or so vacant in their perceptions as to be unfit for office.
