Did Ratzinger resign voluntarily or under coercion? He obviously did not resign for health reasons-- the old Kraut is still alive years after his "resignation." We all know that the Holy Spirit does not oversee papal conclaves, willing to let men do what politics inclines. Given that fat Frank became "Pope," and the excrescence that he is, one certainly need not believe Ratzinger resigned under his own free choice. Who would surrender such power as the Papacy on their own? The answer is too clear. One Pope, a monk as I recall, resigned within days of his election. He never wanted to be Pope. Ratzinger? He wanted it more than sentinels wait for the dawn. And then he resigns some years after being elected?

Non-Sequitur Fallacy. Literallly, "it does not follow". The behavior of a succeeding Pope does not prove or disprove the reasons his predecessor resigned.

Yes. A godly man who truly took the office seriously. Serious enough that he weighed his performance against his conscience and clearly found himself not up to the task.

Benedict has numerous academic colleagues and faithful supporters throughout the world. He is in no way required to "live under coercion" nor does his "army" obey the ones supposedly doing the coercing. To this day he has many, many people who believe he is still Pope. If Benedict cried "Help me!" he would have thousands of people supporting him.

Given a choice between my life and my soul, well, that is not even a choice. Under those circumstances, I would gladly abandon my life just for the pride I could have standing before The Almighty and repeat His Son's words in Matthew 5:10-12

To be honest, such an opportunity would be a great joy because it would instantly remove any need for the legal defense I have planned for all my sins and failings.

God is the ultimate judge and He is an infinitely just judge. If someone threatened my life because I was faithful to God and to The Church, then Matthew 5:10-12 undeniably applies.

More importantly, There are no exceptions or qualifications listed.

Jesus did not say, "Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. -EXCEPT if you are smug, arrogant, pride-filled, contentious, uncharitable and drink too much RedBull." If Jesus had said that, I would still have a problem, even if I was threatened.
