In 2025, she was charged with two counts of “transphobia,” each carrying a possible two-to-five-year prison sentence. The complaint was filed by the politician Erika Hilton. The case follows a 2019 ruling by Brazil’s Supreme Federal Tribunal equating "homophobia" and "transphobia" with racism, and has fuelled debate over free speech and anti-discrimination laws in Brazil.

Brazilian 3D designer Cicero Moraes has denied the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin, arguing that the cloth did not cover the body of a crucified man, but rather a sculpture.
