Archbishop Bernard Longley of Birmingham, UK, has granted in-principle permission for two celebrations of Mass according to the medieval Sarum Use in his archdiocese. In a letter dated 6 October, the Archbishop approved the proposal, subject to further written permissions from the celebrating priests and those responsible for the venues. The Sarum Use is a medieval form of the Roman Catholic liturgy that developed in Salisbury, England, in the 11th century. Its name comes from Sarum, the Latin name for Salisbury. Similar to the Traditional Latin Mass, it has distinctive prayers, chants, vestments and a liturgical calendar. The Masses could take place in 2027.
