Leo XIV has spent another peaceful night at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital following lung cancer surgery, the Vatican announced today. Pope Leo XIV got up, had breakfast and continues to recover as expected. He has resumed walking, eating regular meals and undergoing respiratory physiotherapy. On Wednesday evening, he also concelebrated Mass in a room near his hospital room. Despite the surgery, Pope Leo still intends to travel to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru from November 6-17, Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni confirmed yesterday. The ambitious 12-day journey, the longest of his pontificate, includes numerous flights and a visit to the high-altitude city of Cusco. It is scheduled to begin just 24 days after his operation. A 25-year-old Muslim man smashed a statue of Saint Joseph inside Saint-Henri Church in Le Creusot, France, on October 13. Police arrested the man after he harassed people outside the church. Officers described him as visibly intoxicated and speaking incoherently. He was admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
